Setting the foundation with Marty Taylor’s Interpreting Skills: ASL to English and English to ASL “Fingerspelling”, the facilitators will present common errors of fingerspelling when interpreting from English to ASL, as well as the common receptive errors when interpreting from ASL to English.  Looking at theoretical framework of research participants will discuss the ASL Lexicon and grammatical distinctions of fingerspelling, the phonology of fingerspelling, and the implications of fingerspelling in child language and literacy development.  The participants will also discuss translation choices that include comparing fingerspelling for adults and children with developing language.

Participants are encouraged to bring:

-          a visual recording device: Flip camera, iPhone, iPad, or video camera

-          a laptop computer  (this will aide in viewing your filmed work.)

-          a designated notebook for this series
