This one-day free Professional Awareness Workshop for Sign Language Interpreters Working in the Court is for RID-certified sign language interpreters currently interpreting in the courtroom and RID certified interpreters interested in courtroom interpreting in the future. It will consists of 5 modules which will give an overview of courtroom proceedings.  They are comprised of:

1. Alaska Court System Standards and Best Practices for Courtroom Interpreters 

2. Court System Structure, the Court Environment and Practical Realities 

3. Criminal and Civil Case Types 

4. Common terminology used in courtroom proceedings and 

5. Code of Professional Responsibility for interpreters in the Judiciary and the CPC.  

This workshop is required by the Alaska Court System if you are planning to interpret in Alaska courtrooms.  The presenters will facilitate the learning process through group discussion, video demonstrations, scenario problem solving and lecture.
