Educational Conference Planning

Come help plan for the conference and then stay for the AKRID  membership meeting at 5pm.


Our first planning committee meeting will be held Friday, October 2nd at 3:45pm at UAA in room RH 112. Parking is free on Fridays.  Please let me know if you cannot be there but are willing to serve on or chair a committee.  We will be inviting interpreters from around the State to participate in our planning meetings,


 The dates of Friday, Jan 15 through Sunday, Jan 17, 2016 have been set.  We will begin with a keynote speaker and social time on Friday evening then begin our workshops and trainings to occur all day Sat and Sunday, Jan 16-17, 2015.


Our first priority is locating a speaker/s.  We have the results of our survey from last year's conference and it is attached. Pls submit additional ideas of presenters you would like us to invite or topics you would like to see presented to me by this Thursday, October 1st. So far, the names of Melissa Smith and Nigel Howard have been suggested.  I have emailed them to determine interest and availability.


We need someone to volunteer to serve as a co-chair of the conference this year. I need someone to help me organize, keep track of sub committee meetings, deadlines and details.  Please email to let me know if you would be interested.

We will also need chair people and committee members for the following committees. Please read these over and let me know where you would like to volunteer your time and talents.


Program Committee

This committee is responsible for coordinating the program of events for the conference.  They work with the co-chairs to determine the presenter/s, length of each session, flow of events, appointing of an emcee, etc.


Media Committee

This committee is responsible for advertising our conference both in print and on social media. They will develop flyers announcing the conference, develop the program book/materials for the conference, etc.


Registration Committee

This committee is responsible for on-site registration throughout the conference.  They will welcome participants at the door, complete registration information, accept payment, provide receipts, and keep track of CEU sign up sheets for each workshop.


Hospitality Committee

The hospitality committee is responsible for making participants feel welcome coming to the conference.  This is especially true of out of town participants.  RIdes will be arranged as necessary to local venues, menus provided, etc.


Goody-bag/Door Prizes Committee

This committee is responsible for obtaining bags and name tags for conference participants and items for the bags.  They will be responsible for stuffing the folders into the bags and getting them to the registration people prior to the start of the conference.  This committee will also be responsible for obtaining door prizes to give to participants throughout the conference and managing the awarding of the prizes.


Decorations

This committee is responsible for decorating common areas for the conference participants according to the theme chosen.


Presenter/s Committee

This committee will be responsible for taking care of the needs of the presenter/s.  This may include pick up and drop off at the airport, obtaining dietary food items if needed, insuring copies of hand outs, making sure the needed technology is available and working, etc.


Technology Committee

This committee will be responsible for setting up, maintaining and caring for all technology needs during the conference.  We will be borrowing a listening system from RID, as well as DVD's, projectors, TVs, etc.
